It’s the last day of #RespiteTakeover! We are overwhelmed by the love & support that we’ve received, all this month.

“At some point in our lives, we will experience grief when we lose somebody important and significant to us. Yet, grief is not an experience we commonly talk about or an emotion we openly express. As a society, we remain conservative when it comes to discussing death-related matters, and often avoid it.” – Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health (2018)

DID YOU KNOW?

An Advanced Medical Directive (AMD) & Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) can be drawn up for free by all Singaporeans above 21 years old and with the mental capacity to do so.

Talking about death can sometimes seem morbid or difficult especially in Asian cultures, but why not look at it from the angle of being prepared for any future medical crises and saving your family unnecessary distress at an already difficult time?

Let's take a look back at the story of ABLE's beginning. It all started in September 2009 when Mr Raymundo Yu, the ABLE's Founding Chairman, was approached by the Catholic Social and Community Council to help Caritas Singapore establish a charity serving persons with physical disabilities. This cause resonated with Raymundo, and he recruited like-minded individuals to reach out to this segment of society. A year later, ABLE was then officially incorporated on 25 October 2010 and began operations as a member of Caritas Singapore. Stay tuned for more in-depth stories about how ABLE's journey to our current premises in Agape Village.

“Caregivers like myself appreciate the support given by ABLE, as through our participation in the ‘Tele-Kopi’ sessions, we get to connect with other caregivers and share our experiences in looking after our care recipients. Hearing the real-life stories shared by other caregivers gives us a sense of comfort and strength,” says Mrs Jane Koe, Caregiver.
